Wilfred A. Clarke, 78, of Albuquerque, NM and formerly of Grand Valley, Ontario, Canada, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005 in an Albuquerque hospital. He was born Sunday, September 18, 1927 in Grand Valley, Ontario to the late Roy Clarke and Marguerite Denney Clarke. Survivors include his son, Robert Clarke of Chicago, IL; brother, Pete Clarke of Minden, Ontario, Canada, and sister-in-law, Harriet Clarke of Ajax, Ontario, Canada. Wilfred was preceded in death by his wife, of over 40 years, Helen Marie Clarke; his son, Brian Clarke, and by a brother, Lloyd Clarke. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1949, and he was awarded the Prince of Wales Gold Medal for highest standing in his graduating year. After graduation, Wilfred began his banking career with Royal Bank of Canada, as part of the inspection staff of the smaller branches, and he became a Fellow of the Canadian Bankers Association in 1958. When Wilfred came to the United States, he came to Albuquerque with the position of Senior Vice President of the Bank of New Mexico and in 1966, he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank. Wilfred held that position until 1974, when his family moved to Oklahoma City, OK so he could pursue a position of President of Fidelity Corporation. In the mid-1980s, Wilfred retired from the banking business and returned to Albuquerque with his family. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel with Rev. Myron White officiating.
