Bernard Patrick Doyle (Bernie), age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2005. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Edna Doyle; his parents, John Joseph and Annie Lehehan Doyle; sister, Jane Feichtmeir; brother, Robert Doyle; nephews, Ronald Doyle and Whitney Brandon and niece, Joanie Feichtmeir. Bernie is survived by his sister, Beatrice Brandon and husband, Herbert, of Lakewood, CO. Other survivors include his daughters, Alex Beach and husband, Arthur, Annie Ferguson, Stacey Poindexter and husband, Robert; son, Luke Doyle and wife, Cynthia; grandchildren, Eric Beach, Jesse, Kelly, and Ben Ferguson, Katie and Audrey Poindexter, Clarke, Whitney, and Lindsay Doyle. Bernie was born on March 17, 1919 in Menlo Park, CA. Bernie's birth took place in the Palm Hotel above the Lehehan Saloon on St. Patrick's Day! The entire town knew of and celebrated his birthday. He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory and The University of Santa Clara where he is listed on the 1939 football roster. He was a Major in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country during WWII, as a flight instructor at Randolph and Kelly Fields, San Antonio, TX. Bernie worked in Albuquerque, NM and Arlington, TX as a salesman for Duke City Lumber Company. After retirement, he had an active career as a community volunteer. He served as President of the Ft. Worth, TX Senior Men's Club, President of the St Maria Goretti Leisure Club, and President of the Arlington Serra Club. Bernie was known for his Irish recitations and loved to entertain anyone who would listen. His renditions of Casey at the Bat, The Man Who Fanned Casey, "The BUG", and The Kids Last Fight, are among the selections that brought his audience to laughter and tears. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place. Father Andy Pavlak will celebrate a Memorial Mass in thanksgiving for Bernie's life, on Friday, November 25, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas NE on the UNM Campus.
