Obituary for JERNIGAN

Alyce Kouri Jernigan, age 92, beloved wife, mother, siti, sister, and neighbor, died October 2, 2005. Her husband, Maxie Osmond Jernigan, preceded her in death by 29 years. Mrs. Jernigan retired from the State Highway Department in 1975 where she worked as secretary/receptionist for nearly 20 years. She was the third oldest of the eight children of A. A. and Fanny Kouri, and was the oldest of the three surviving sisters including Mrs. Selma Buckingham of Farmington, NM and Mrs. Rose Geha of Toledo, OH. Her family includes her son, A. Tom Jernigan and his wife, Liz and his children, Judi, Sarah, John, and Micah, her children, Audrey and Stephanie, with great-grandchildren, Dillon, Damien and Chloe, all from AZ. Included are her daughter, Marilyn R. Antinone, her husband, Robert and their children, Kouri and Max of Albuquerque. Also included are Mrs. June Kouri of Albuquerque; Betty Sue and Bob Wilson, Albuquerque; Leora Jernigan Wallace, Albuquerque; and Mrs. Barbara Jernigan of Clermont, FL. Mrs. Jernigan was active for several years in the Prime Time Singles group at St. John's Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She and her husband were active snow-mobilers and fishermen prior to his death. Mrs. Jernigan loved to travel. She loved people and was known for her good sense of humor and her teasing. When asked where her favorite place was, she replied: home, with her family around her. Thanks to the efforts of her children and grandchildren, Alyce was able to stay in her own home until the final four days of her life. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, December 18, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE.
