Obituary for LOPEZ

Philip (Felipe) Lopez, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 23, 2005 in Portland, OR. He is survived by his parents, Orlando and Clarita Lopez; daughters, Maria Helena Lopez, Wendy Chavez, and Renee Morris; sons, Ryan, Andrew, and Philip; 11 grandchildren, sisters, Berlinda Rabe and husband, Mitch and Terry Lopez; two nieces; three nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and very close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Quintana-Lopez and his brother, Gilbert Lopez. Felipe was born in Williams, AZ and moved to Albuquerque in 1961. He attended Highland High School. Felipe was known as a Santero. He carved Retablos-Bultos with traditional natural pigments and had a gift for carving faces he would see in pieces of wood. He won several blue ribbons and gained acceptance into the Spanish Market Membership in the Spanish Colonial Art Society of Santa Fe. Felipe has articles in print and a Retablo in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. He has also donated a piece to Pajarito Elementary School. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 7, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas at Tennessee NE.
