Obituary for WEBER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday October 01, 2005

Elizabeth A. Weber, recently of Belen, died on Friday, September 23, 2005, at age 76 in Belmont, CA. A nurse for half a century, Liz died a patient of other caregivers and in the presence of family after a short, resolute but ultimately one-sided battle with cancer. Liz is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard B. Weber; their sons, William (Laurel), Thomas (Stephanie), and Paul (Mary); daughters, Jeanne (Rich), Carol (Mike), and Ellen; ten grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her brothers, Robert and Andrew; and her extended family of friends. Born June 4, 1929, in Waukesha, WI, Liz graduated in 1950 from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee. Liz was a registered nurse for many years at the Northwest Community Hospital Emergency Room (and later Treatment Center) in Arlington Heights, IL. Dick and Liz raised their family in Elk Grove Village, IL, where Liz was an active volunteer, hosting the Elk Grove Nurses Club Lending Closet, acting as a Cub Scout den leader and a Girl Scout troop leader and performing with the Northwest Choralettes Choir. In 1987, Dick and Liz "retired" to the warmer climes of Albuquerque, where Liz worked for both Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Urgent Care, putting in that "extra day" of nursing up until time restricted her ability to give care and comfort to others, and forced her unfeigned retirement in 2003. Still, her devotion and contribution to healthcare never stopped: Liz and Dick became patrons of the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and Liz volunteered at the Belen Urgent Care Facility until this summer, when her illness finally stopped her efforts to help others. Private services were held Tuesday, September 27, at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church in Half Moon Bay, CA. Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
