William Ayles Nunn, Jr., age 88, a noted restaurateur and cofounder of Albuquerque's Great American Land and Cattle Company Restaurant, died peacefully at his Albuquerque home, Monday, September 12, 2005. Since 1974, Mr. Nunn and his wife Lana, opened and successfully operated a number of other restaurants throughout the Southwest. Mr. Nunn was born in Sanderson, TX, July 19, 1917. As a young man, he was an officer in the U.S. Army stationed in California, where he oversaw the training of thousands of recruits for overseas combat duty. After his discharge, he was a bank officer for two years, before taking a position as a Life Insurance agent with the Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company in Los Angeles, CA. He founded the Minnesota Mutual Agency in San Diego and ran the office until his retirement in 1973. He then moved briefly to Albion, ID, to study with his spiritual teacher, Dr. Robert "Bob" Gibson. He spent more than thirty years actively embracing the spiritual teachings of Dr. Bob, and integrated the philosophies he was learning in all the restaurants he opened. The restaurant business was a school for applying spiritual teachings on a practical level. Besides his wife, Lana, Mr. Nunn is survived by two sons, Jack Nunn and his wife, Peggy of EI Paso, TX, and Teako Nunn and his wife, Josie of Hatch, NM; and a daughter, Jan Nunn Spiller of New York City, all of whom are from a previous marriage to Jean Sands, of Shelby, MT, who died in 1974.
