Benigna is a member of the prominent Delgado family with roots in Santa Fe dating back to the year 1780 to Captain Xavier Chavarria and is a direct descendant of Captain Cristobal Vaca, who with his family came as a settler to the Santa Fe area in the year 1600 with Juan de Onate. She was a graduate from the former Loretto Academy in Santa Fe. She worked at Kahn's Shoe Store and the Santa Fe Public Schools. She is also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with many, many relatives and friends. Through the efforts of her great niece Cecilia and husband Charles Tafoya the event was also recognized with a birthday card from President and Laura Bush, framed card and signed picture from Senator Pete Domenici and a beautiful proclamation from Mayor Larry Delgado of Santa Fe (a relative, of course) proclaiming May 20, 2005 "Benigna Delgado-Dantis Day" in Santa Fe. Bennie will always be remembered for her engaging smile, friendly nature and willingness to share with others. The family would especially like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Rest Home for their support and many kindnesses and her "extended family" at Rallis 4th Street Grill and Lindy's, her two favorite restaurants that she visited weekly. Everyone made her feel at home and so special.
