Barbara Ann Carson Gunn (Babs), passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 5:05 p.m. at the age of 87, after a long illness. She was born April 23, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri. As an infant, she moved to El Paso, Texas where she attended school, married, and started her family. Babs married Gordon M. Gunn, Jr., her beloved husband of 68 years, in El Paso on June 23, 1937. Following WWII, the family moved to Albuquerque in 1946. Babs variously worked for the Girl Scouts of America, Eckert's Furniture, and later for Sandia Corporation. In 1955, she became a devoted and active Charter Member of Christ United Methodist Church. In 1963, Barbara and Gordon moved to California, residing over the years in San Diego, San Pedro, Walnut Creek, and Danville. Wherever she lived, Barbara devoted many hours and much energy to her church and community by serving wherever help was needed, including serving as a volunteer teaching assistant at the 68th street School in Watts, CA. Upon Gordon's retirement in 1979, the Gunn's returned to their beloved Albuquerque, where they have lived happily ever after. Barbara was a very involved member of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, and a member of BH Chapter of PEO where she served as President 1985-86. In church and PEO she developed numerous abiding and deep friendships. Barbara was a loyal and loving friend, always concerned with the welfare of others, and supportive wherever she saw need. She loved her family, and was there for them always. She also developed quite an extended family through her Church and PEO affiliations. Her husband, Gordon M. Gunn, Jr.; her children, Gordon M. Gunn, III and his wife, Jeannie of Albuquerque, and Karen Thompson of Sedona, Arizona survive her. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed all of her ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano NW, on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Her service will be presided over by Rev. Dave McConaughy, a close and long time friend, and the Founding Pastor of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church.
