Obituary for SCHMITT

Richard T. Schmitt, 88, died Sunday, August 28, 2005 at a local hospital in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Gayle Morris and husband, Cliff of Sandia Park, NM; Richard T. Schmitt, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Gallup, NM; Rebecca Schmitt-Baca and husband, Steve of Santa Fe, NM. He is also survived by his grandchildren LeeAnn, Wade, Jeremy, Gina, Nikki, David, Rachael, Zachary, and Emily; seven great-grandchildren; and step-sister, Alice Michaels of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Monsignor John Harley Schmitt. Mr. Schmitt served in the US Navy during WWII. He worked for Los Alamos National Labs as a High Explosives Machinist until his retirement in 1977. After retirement Frances and Richard traveled extensively. Richard will be remembered as a generous, independent, hard worker whose Catholic faith guided his life. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, August 31, 2005, 7:00 p.m., at the French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Risen Savior Catholic Community at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
