Obituary for WILLIAMS

E. Jane Williams died Monday, August 22, 2005 in Franklin, TN. She was 89. Preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Hill and Fred Devoe Williams; her brothers, Robert Williams, Fred Williams, Jr., Allan Williams, Paul Williams; her sister, Grace Marion Williams, who died in infancy; and her nephew, Robert Williams Jr. Survived by nieces and nephews: Elsie MacMullin, Diane Nelson, Janet Royce, Liana Wallman, Allan Williams Jr., Fred Williams III, Marcia Williams; as well as by great-nieces and nephews. A poet, artist, and long-time resident of New Mexico, Jane grew up in Wayne, PA graduating from Radnor (PA) high school. She earned a BS from Sweet Briar College and a masters degree from Columbia University. During the Second World War, she served in India with the Red Cross. Upon returning, she studied art in the West, opening a gallery in Albuquerque's old town in 1948. Returning to teaching in the early 1950s, she taught English at Valley High School in Albuquerque until her retirement. She continues teaching, even in death, having donated her body to science. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at The Albuquerque Museum's auditorium.
