Obituary for CHRISTENSEN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 14, 2005

Claire Christensen, In Memory. Born Claire Elizabeth Landry at home in Franklin, Massachusetts, on April 23, 1921, and passed away on August 14, 2004, in Carson City, Nevada. A strong woman of French Canadian heritage, she covered the expanse of the Twentieth Century, was raised during the Great Depression and served with the first women in the U.S. Army in the Women's Auxiliary Corp during WWII. From a family of six children to raising six children of her own and her 52-year marriage to Robert ("Chris") Christensen, she will be remembered from numerous angles-a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her intuitive love for children was shown over the years from teaching reading classes to a decade of volunteer work in the Make-a-Wish of Northern Nevada. She also volunteered as a reading tutor at Martineztown Community Center and the VA Hospital in Albuquerque. She was an animated, independent thinking conversationalist, whose artful hand movements matched her compassionate dialogue. She has been truly missed while always remaining in our hearts and an intricate part of our lives. We take comfort in believing she is together again with her youngest child, Lois, who preceded her in death-something a parent should never have to endure. She will always be in our hearts - Chris, Rusty, Karen, Joann & Tim, John, Jean, Jenny, Rachel, and Richie, Michael, Nathan & Jimmy.
