John J. Johnson, 88, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Johnson of New York, NY. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette H. Johnson in 1998 and one sister, Emily Fondren. He was born on June 29, 1917 in Mississippi and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a veteran of the assault at Anzio Beach and the Allied entry into Rome in 1944. He moved to Albuquerque in 1955 and for the last two years resided at Carefree Living. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE, 87108, or another animal protection organization in tribute to Mr. Johnson's life-long love of animals and nature.
