Obituary for WADDLES

LENA SARAH BANKS. Mrs. Lena Sarah Banks Waddles came into this world on April 27, 1925 in Okarche, OK. She was the sixth child of nine born to Israel and Bertha (Fraizer) Chiles. She was the last of nine sisters and brothers, the last of that generation. Sarah graduated from Topeka High School in 1944, and started college, but was unable to finish. She was also a "Rosie the Riveter" from 1944-45 for Boeing Aircrafts during World War II. She retired from Jordan's Bouquet after 27 years, also helping her husband in his business at the same time. She always taught us if you want something, do not be afraid of a little work. You can have anything you want, as she did. She was a very fashion minded person and won many beauty and best dressed contests. In the spring of 1957, Lena (Sarah), and sister, Christine, and a little baby (Scrappy) were going through Albuquerque on their way to Arizona. Their car broke down and she decided to stay. Sarah joined and became an active member of Phillips Chapel CME Church in 1960, where she was involved in the Women's Ministry, the Usher Board, and the Stewardess Board. Sarah became very active in her community, sending her to the many organizations that she belonged. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mt. Everest Chapter #3 where she was Past Matron. Luxor Court #188 Daughter of Isis, she was Past Commandress Deputy of the Desert of New Mexico. Order of the Golden Circle San Hedrin Assembly #69, she held the office of Past State Loyal Lady Ruler. She was a member of the Mahalla Jackson Temple #1259 as Deputy Daughter Ruler. In addition, she was a Turtle. She took great pride in the things she did and was willing to work hard. Sarah will be missed by her husband of 43 years, Jessie Waddles; daughters and nieces and nephew, Jeannie Williams of Sacramento, CA, Rufina Williams of Albuquerque, Patricia Lynn Taylor and husband, Richard of Arieta, CA, Karen Perry of Pasadena, CA, and Alexander Perry Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; stepchildren, James and Layana of Larkspur, CO, Gloria Waddles-Perry, Diana Waddles, Cheryl Owens, Donald Waddles all of Denver, CO; daughter, Sarah L. Bank, niece Mamie Perry, stepsons Jessie Jr. and Barry Waddles precede her in death. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and 20 step grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and 39 step grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She also had many "Children of Heart" people that also had the opportunity to cross her path and was proud to call her MOM.
