Marie E. Clauss, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1987, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005. She is survived by her husband, Julius A. (Bud) Clauss, Jr.; children, Ethel M. Birchler and husband Keith of Essexville, MI, John M. Clauss and wife Pam of Albuquerque, Catherine A. Fisher and husband Bill of Los Gatos, CA, David B. Clauss and wife Ellen of Albuquerque, Beth Batten and husband Andy of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Peter, Brian, and Ellen Birchler; Emily and Charlie Clauss; Sarah and Stacey Fisher; Kristen and Kevin Clauss; and sister, Arlene Batrin of Mayville, MI. Marie was diagnosed with lung cancer almost three years ago. She was able to celebrate her 75th birthday with family the day before she died and she talked to many loved ones on her last day on this earth. Although she will be greatly missed, we know she is now in a better place with our Lord. After retiring from publishing work with Cornell Press and UNM Press, Marie became an avid golfer and was active with the "Ringers" at Tanoan Country Club and often delighted in family outings. She had a life-long love of travel including many trips abroad with Bud. She continued to her travels even after she was diagnosed with cancer, including trips to Maui and the United Kingdom. Marie was an accomplished and gifted pianist and organist; she particularly enjoyed playing duets with her daughter Ethel. She taught piano to many students including several of her children and grandchildren. She loved classical music and opera. Those who knew her and loved her will remember and take joy in the always present sparkle in her eyes. Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE.
