Obituary for GARDNER

William A. Gardner Fighter pilot, engineer extraordinaire, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2005. Bill was born in Gorham, NH on November 3, 1920. He was called to active duty on November 3, 1941. Flying 172 missions from New Guinea to the Philippines he earned the Silver Star, the DFC, 1 cluster, the Air Medal and 8 clusters. He married Marilyn Davis on November 23, 1945. In 1948 he joined Sandia National Labs and became Director of Development Testing, retiring in 1984. His daughter, Rosanne Lee preceded him in death. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn; his sister, Patricia Ann Poirier and her husband Charles Poirier, his three sons, Stephen, John, and David and their wives; a daughter, Dona; and numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Animal Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Memorial Services will be held Thursday June 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Strong Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, 842-8800.
