Kris Andrea, 47, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at her home in Durango, CO of an apparent self-inflicted carbon-monoxide poisoning. A Prayer Service will be Friday, June 24, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary in Durango, CO. A gathering of friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary on Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Andrea was born December 18, 1957 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Kenneth and Carole Duerr. She was one of six children. After high school, she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ where she earned a B.A. in philosophy and creative writing. After college, she worked as a paralegal and then became one of the principal hiking guides at the Canyon Resort in Tucson. She then moved to Durango, CO in 1996 and completed training as a massage therapist. While in Durango, she met the man who would become her husband, cardiologist Dr. Bruce Andrea. The Andreas enjoyed many outdoor pursuits, including both cross-country and Alpine skiing, hiking, biking and gardening. Her husband described her as being full of compassion and care for others. "She supported me in my career," said Dr. Andrea, "giving me real strength to persevere in my own attempts to build a full-service, quality cardiovascular program here." She had been studying for the past two years for a master's degree in counseling at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO and had a 4.0 grade-point average for the last semester. She is survived by Dr. Bruce Andrea (spouse) of Durango, CO, Ryon Yemm (son) of Crystal Lake, IL, Kenneth Duerr (father) of Springfield, IL, Carole Nerone (mother) of Springfield, IL, Bill Nerone (step-father) of Springfield, IL, Karen Rust (sister) of Schaumberg, IL, Joy Duerr (sister) of Springfield, IL, Thomas Duerr (brother) of Springfield, IL, and David Duerr (brother) of Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Sefried.
