Obituary for TENNYSON

George Pete Tennyson, Jr. passed away suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage on Thursday, June 16, 2005 in Fort Collins, CO. He was blessed by the presence of his close family and wife at the time of his death. George was born on May 12, 1929 in Portland, OR to Myrtle Amelia Nordin and George Peter Tennyson, Sr. Raised in Portland, George went on to obtain a degree in Mathematics from Oregon State University in 1951. Soon thereafter, he earned a degree in Meteorology from the University of Washington. George went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a Meteorologist during the Korean conflict - stationed both in Japan and Korea. In 1955, upon returning to the United States, George entered private industry as a Design Engineer for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS. It was at Cessna that George met his wife of 45 years, Glenda Fay Tennyson. He later joined Boeing Aircraft of Wichita, KS as an engineer. In 1962, George moved his family to Washington, DC when he accepted a position with the Headquarters of the National Air and Space Administration. There, he worked as a Meteorologist in both the Apollo and Nimbus programs. In 1975, George accepted a position within the Department of Energy. He worked in the management of Small Wind Systems Development, and Wind Characteristics Programs. In 1979, he transferred to the Albuquerque, NM field office of DOE. After 36 years of US Government service, George retired on June 3, 1994. During his eleven years of retirement, George enjoyed camping, travel, church activities, working as a volunteer on political campaigns and at election polls, and serving as the Chaplain of the Duke City NARFE Chapter 1411. George's love of life grew with each passing year. He will be remembered for his kind heart, high intellect, and as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. George is survived by his wife, Glenda; his sons Steven and wife Elizabeth of Albuquerque, Thomas of Houston, TX, and Robert and wife Shannon of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Jason, Michael, Sara, Ryan, and Carter. He was preceded in death by both parents, and a grandchild, Nicholas. Memorial services will be held for George Tennyson on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria Rd. NE.
