Obituary for MADRID

Tony Madrid was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 1, 1921, to Juan Madrid and Refugio Encinias, and left this world to be with the LORD on May 7, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving "honita" Virginia, his wife of 59 years, and his brother, Miguel, of Springer, New Mexico, and six children, Anthony Madrid, of Albuquerque; Frances Butler, of Columbia, SC; Lawrence Madrid, of Bakersfield, CA; Rita Warren of Canyon Lake, CA; Ernie Madrid of Bakersfield, CA and Irene Madrid, of Temecula, CA. He also had two loving sons-in-law, Jerry Butler, and John Warren; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Madrid and Rita Madrid. Tony leaves behind 10 grandchildren; Rick, Ramon, Becky, Erica, Jon, Michael, Jennifer, Amy, Justin, and Nicole; six great-grandchildren; Joshua, Kenadie, Morgan, Lexie, Hope, and Logan, and numerous nieces, and nephews; too many to list. He was preceded in death by great-grandson, Matthew. He was in the medical corps during WWII. He retired from McDonald-Douglas in Long Beach, CA after 30 years of service. He moved to Albuquerque in 1983 and enjoyed being a crossing guard for 16 years at John Baker Elementary School. The family would like to express their loving thoughts and special thanks to the staff of Presbyterian Hospice, and to Doctor Malcolm Purdy. Also, the family would like to acknowledge the loving support shown by his niece, Barbara Montoya. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 12, 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd., NE. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery with his son, Pastor Lawrence Madrid officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary - Lomas Blvd. Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until the Rosary on Wednesday, May 11, 2005. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
