Obituary for HOWELL

Magdelene "Maggie" Howell died on March 29, 2005 in Bellingham, WA. She was born on June 25, 1915 in Cleveland, OH. Maggie married John S. Howell, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, in early 1942. She worked for the Navy Department during WWII, and moved to Albuquerque in 1959. She resided there until 1999, when she moved to Bellingham, WA to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Her husband, John retired from the Army in 1966, in Albuquerque, and died in May of 1988. Maggie attended the University of New Mexico and was awarded a Master's of Education Degree in 1968. She subsequently taught English and Science at St. Vincent's Academy, and for the Albuquerque Public Schools. Maggie was active in the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters, and she did volunteer work for the Albuquerque Museum. She loved to travel and was able to visit all the continents, except for Australia and Antarctica, during her many trips. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her son, John E. Howell, who died in Albuquerque in April of 1993. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sidney Howell of Bellingham; her sister, Ella Clark of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters of Bellingham; grandson, Zachary Howell of Albuquerque; and three great-grandchildren.
