Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday April 01, 2005

Fred Casias, 87, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005. He is survived by his sisters, Lena Casias, Gerri Gurule, and Laura Pacheco; as well as two stepdaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Yetta Casias. Fred was born February 28, 1918 on a cattle ranch in Cimarron, NM to Fred and Tillie Casias. After enlisting in the Army during WWII, Fred was injured while jumping into a foxhole, and soon after he was honorably discharged because of his injuries. Fred worked as an electrician and commuted to Los Alamos for many years up until his retirement. Fred loved the outdoors, whether it was his rose garden or fishing and camping. He also enjoyed his red chile with posole and could always be found cooking up a batch for his friends and family. But his true love was his wife, Yetta, and together they loved the Lord. Now Fred has joined them both and their families will miss them deeply. Rest in peace. Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens.
