Obituary for BESERRA

Richard Anthony Beserra went to be with our Lord on March 21, 2005. He was born on June 2, 1947 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his father, Refugio (Roy) Beserra. He is survived by his mother, Mela Beserra; and his sons, Colby and wife, Annie of Chicago, IL, Roy Brock of Albuquerque, and Richard Reagan of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ron and wife, Carol of Albuquerque, and Patrick and wife, Anne of Albuquerque. He is also survived by a loving family of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins, and a granddaughter expected next month. Rick attended Highland High School in Albuquerque and received his BA and MA from Western New Mexico University in Silver City. He was an all-city and all-state basketball player and an altar boy at St. Francis Xavier. He was the head basketball coach for Los Lunas High School, and in the 1977-78 school year he took the Tigers to the State basketball tournament for the first time in 32 years. After beginning his teaching career he spent 20 years in the family sporting goods business in Silver City, NM before returning to teaching at Carrizozo High School, and finally at his alma mater Highland High School. The Rosary will be recited at Salazar & Sons Mortuary on Monday, March 28, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Avila, Victor Beserra, Ben Michael Barreras, Marcos Barreras, Christopher Perea, and Ray Martin Vargas.
