Obituary for RODRIGUEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 11, 2005

Ben Rodriguez, 65, a native of Albuquerque, lost his courageous battle with cancer March 8, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father Benny Rodriguez in 1983 and by his beloved son, Alan in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Zoe, his "bestest buddy" of 41 years; very special daughter, Monica; mother, Josephine Rodriguez; sisters, Celsa Tafoya, Alberta (Fida) Sandoval and husband, Pete; brother, Dan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was born in the old St. Josephs Hospital on May 20, 1939. He graduated in 1958 from old Albuquerque High, excelling in sports. Ben went into the Army and was stationed at Bainbridge Island in Washington State specializing in missiles. He attended Browning Commercial School and UNM. Ben became an accountant apprentice, thus becoming comptroller for House of Carpets for 18 years. He founded Carpets and More and made it the successful carpet store it is today. Ben had many colleagues in the carpet industry, the Apartment Association and in advertising, as well, and they all became close friends. Ben had a tremendous zest for life. He loved to have a good laugh. A hard worker, he will always be remembered as a dignified, compassionate and gracious man who was very much admired and respected. His loss will be immeasurable. Four doves will be released at the burial site, each to represent a member of the family, Ben, Zoe, Monica, and Alan with the faith that they will all be together again some day. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 12, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunication Catholic Church, Vermont at Claremont with Rev. Ronald Bruckner, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Peter Sandoval, Fabian Gallegos, Lando Gallegos, Bobby Santiago, Tim Payne and Victor Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Fermin Durham, Flint McCollough, and Simeon Cook, Charlie Romero, Carlos Salazar, and Jeremy Navarro. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE 275-3500
