Lawrence Henry Ballweg (Larry), a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2005. He was born in Rahway, NJ and spent his childhood in Newburgh, NY. Larry graduated from the St. Lawrence University, Ohio State University and University of Chicago with BS, MS and MBA Degrees and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi Honorary Societies. He joined the Armed Forces as a flying cadet in 1941 and retired as a Colonel in the Air Force after 30 years of service. He was involved in such programs as nuclear powered aircraft, rocket technology and director of the rocket test track at Holloman AFB. His first 26 years were spent as a research and development manager with the US Air Force Systems Command. His last 4 years were spent as commandant of cadets and professor of Air Force ROTC at the University of Illinois. Following his military career he spent 12 years as an administrator at the University of New Mexico, College of Pharmacy. He was an active member of the Catholic Community at Kirtland AFB and Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. He spent many hours a week volunteering in such organizations as Meals on Wheels and Albuquerque Retired Volunteer Programs. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Albuquerque; son, Allen of Albuquerque; daughter, Ann Anderson and her husband, Kristian; grandsons, Erik and Kyle of Granite Bay, CA. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont St. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
