Obituary for GUERNSEY

Abbie "Gail" Guernsey, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Monday, March 7, 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Whitworth and husband Ed, of Edgewood, NM, Vicki Council and husband Clay, of Belen, NM, Jo Davis and husband, Vernon of Belen, NM; son, Arthur Giles Guernsey of Center, TX; grandchildren, Steven Whitworth and wife, Becky of Cranberry Township, PA, Keith Whitworth and wife, Jaree of Edgewood, NM, Rebecca Kennedy and husband, Wayne of Pooler, GA, Maggie Clokey of Albuquerque, NM, and Richard Garner, Brett Garner, and Camryn Council, all of Belen; great-grandchildren, Kayla Whitworth and Cory Whitworth of Edgewood; brother, Giles Bailey and wife, Margaret of Albuquerque; and nephew, Scott Bailey and family of TX; and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Arthur B. Guernsey in 1984 and her parents, Giles and Altamae Bailey. Gail was born on November 29, 1924 in San Antonio, TX. After her marriage to Arthur Guernsey on March 1, 1944, she lived the life of a military pilot's wife traveling throughout the United States, Japan, and Canada before her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1962. She worked for Campfire Girls After School program, 10 years in the nursery at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, raised her family and was a nanny to the Heard family and several others. Gail also worked as a teacher's aide in APS. She was a longtime member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Gail was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, receiving an award for her years of service. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Pastor Larry D. Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Because of her love for children, in lieu of flowers, please do something special for a child in her memory.
