Obituary for COSPER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday March 05, 2005

Bonnie Cosper. Her name was Bonnie Bertha Blue Cosper, but all who knew her simply called her "Mom". Bonnie died peacefully in her sleep on February 28, 2005 at the age of 102, after living one of the most fulfilling lives a human can lead. She was born on July 25, 1902 in Gordon, Texas. At the age of 17 she married her lifelong love, James Arthur Cosper, in Iredell, Texas. Mom and Pop Cosper shared 72 years of constant companionship before Pop passed away in 1992. In 1921 Mom and Pop moved across the state of Texas, from Spring Creek to Clarendon, a journey that took 24 days by covered wagon. It was a long, difficult trip, but Mom and Pop and infant daughter, Earlene were a hardy crew who fared just fine. Before moving to Albuquerque in 1942, Mom had given birth to two girls and three boys. The Cospers lived in southwest Albuquerque for more than 50 years where they owned and managed Fashion Dry Cleaning until they retired. Bonnie is survived by two brothers, Harry Blue of Cranfills Gap, TX, Tony Blue of Nashville, TN; and sister, Edna Whitney of Los Angeles, CA; her children, Earlene Johnson and husband, Bayard Johnson of Waco, TX, James (better known as "Pete") and wife, Norma Cosper of Stanley, NM, Leroy (everyone calls him "Poss") Cosper of Weatherford, TX and Jerald (also known as "Tooter") and wife, Patricia Cosper of Corrales, NM. Mom and Pop's five children gave birth to 14 children of their own, and at last count their legacy included 29 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great- grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Hank Cosper, Jerry Cosper, Gary Cosper, Clyde Heath, Mike Lee and Justin Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be John Cosper, Ronnie Feder, Rusty Heath, Dusty Heath and Mathew Mosier. A viewing was held at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services are set for Friday, March 4, 2005 at 10:30 a.m., also at French Mortuary. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Mausoleum.
