Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday February 09, 2005

Thomas J. Cavanaugh, Colonel, USAF (RET), 80, a resident of Albuquerque, was called home to the Lord on February 3, 2005. Although his family and friends will miss him, we are truly blessed to have had him touch our lives. Col. Cavanaugh was born in Chicago, IL on July 3, 1924, to Thomas and Nora Cavanaugh. After graduating from high school in 1943, he began a 32-year career serving his country in the United States Air Force. A proud veteran, Col. Cavanaugh served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He is one of many who answered the call of his nation, and our gratitude is deeply heartfelt. Col. Cavanaugh is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan; his adoring brother, John; his four beautiful daughters, Maureen, Candace, Shannan, and Meaghan; and his three wonderful grandchildren, Courtenay, Sean, and Gavin. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. A true Irishman, a lover of trains, and a classic gentleman, he made our lives brighter, and we look forward to the time when we are all together again.
