Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 06, 2005

Wendell Redmond, (March 12, 1916 - February 2, 2005). Wendell died February 2nd in Albuquerque following surgery. Wendell and his family lived many years in Los Alamos and Santa Fe, and for the last eight years he and his wife lived in Albuquerque with his daughter, Linda and her family. Wendell was proud of his service in the U.S. Army VII Corps Artillery Battery in World War II and was one of the last survivors of his unit. He served in the protective force at Los Alamos for 36 years until his retirement in 1983. Wendell delighted in the company of Lois, his lifelong friend and wife of 62 years, and in his five children and their families. He was a kind and compassionate man and although his death fills us with sadness, the memories of our many family adventures over the years will continue to assure his presence in our lives. Wendell was preceded in death by his father, William R. Duncan, and his mother, Virginia Hensen Duncan. He is survived by his sons and daughters, Layne and Janice St. John, Carolyn Duncan, Gerald Duncan, Joe and Linda Walters, and Ken and Beverly Duncan. Wendell is also survived by his well-loved grandchildren, Stryder and Lyric St. John, Quinn Duncan, Zachary and Luke Aikey, Justin and Jeremy Heinz, Tyler and Megan Duncan, and by his great-grandchildren, Andrew Ortiz and Shayden St. John. Wendell also will be missed by a large group of recently-acquired friends in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he and Lois visited for the last few summers. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and his remains placed in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe following a private memorial service.
