Obituary for MILES

CAPTAIN FLOYD P. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2005 at Church on the Move for Retired Captain Floyd P. Miles, age 85, of Roswell, who passed away January 13, 2005 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Retired Pastor Monroe Miles, who is Floyd's uncle, Pastor Randy Reeves of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and Pastor Curtis Harding of Church on the Move will officiate the services. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2005 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Floyd was born August 29, 1919 in Endee, NM to former Governor John and Susie Wade Miles. Gov. Miles served from 1938 until 1941. They have preceded him in death, as well as his wife of 37 years, Darlene Mitchel Miles and three sisters: Edna Green, Mildred Adams and Peggy Henrie. On October 14, 1997, Floyd married Meredith Campbell in Carrizozo, NM. She survives him. He is also survived by his son: Ronnie Miles and his wife, Pat of Roswell; his daughter: Jana Miles of Portland, Oregon and her mother, Floyd's former wife, Janice Lumsden of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren: Preston Miles and Kelsey Miles, both of Roswell and Michael Miles of Portland, OR; three brothers: Wade Miles and his wife, Sara of Tucumcari, Floyds' twin, Lloyd Miles and his wife, Betty of Belen, NM and Franklin Miles and his wife, Pat of Santa Fe, NM; stepchildren: Bob Brunner of Jacksonville, FL, Gary Corman, Cyndi Mitchell and Jeannie Corman, all of Roswell, and Dale Corman of Ruidoso, NM and their spouses; step-grandchildren: Megaan, Lacy, John, Sam, Steve, Chris, Laine, and Will. Floyd considered all Law Enforcement Agencies throughout New Mexico to be his extended family. Floyd joined the New Mexico State Police on December 15, 1941, his first duty station was Port of Entry detail. In 1942 he was assigned to the Motorcycle division and later transferred to Santa Rosa. In 1955, he made Sgt. And was transferred to Ft. Sumner and later to Alamogordo, then to Farmington. In July 1959, he made Captain, and transferred to Socorro, Gallup, and Clovis, and then Roswell. He served 40 years on the force, and retired in Roswell in 1981. A gentle soul who loved his God and family has left us. He had been the oldest living State Police Officer in New Mexico. Pallbearers will be the State Police Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the State Police Brotherhood and all his many friends. Memorials may be made to the New Mexico State Police Brotherhood Association, 2106 S. Richardson, Roswell, NM 88203. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
