Obituary for HOPKINS

Jones L. "Hoppy" Hopkins, US Navy Retired, was born March 13, 1928 passed and away Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Jones is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy; his son, Edward and grandsons, Matthew, Joseph and James. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Rebecca and Rhonda; his parents Joseph and Fay; and sisters, Georgia and Juanita. He is also survived by sisters, Nancy Kersey and Sue Russell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jones graduated from Albuquerque High in 1946 and immediately joined the United States Navy. After a 20 year career in the U.S. Navy, he retired in 1966 as a Chief Petty Officer. He always considered his time with the Navy as the highlight of his achievements and was quick to reminisce. After retiring from the Navy, he began working for Lovelace Medical Research Center. After a distinguished career, he retired from Lovelace in 1989. Jones was active in the Lions Club, having held several positions. He was also a past Board Member of the Towne Park Homeowners Association. Jones was a supporter of the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta where he was the Crew Chief for the same pilot for over 20 years. Jones will be dearly missed, but his time with us will always be cherished memories. A memorial service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m., with US Navy Honors. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services 2919 4th ST. NW.
