Doris Arlene Derby: A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2004 at Ballard Funeral Chapel for Doris Arlene Derby, 83, of Roswell who passed away December 8, 2004 at Montebello Nursing Center in Albuquerque. Rev. Archie Echols of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Doris was born on June 13, 1921 in Nichols, Iowa to William Austin Heath and Anna Sybald Heath. On October 4, 1940 Doris married William "Bill" Jerome Derby at the Methodist Church in Muscatine, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death as well as both parents. Doris had been a resident of Roswell for thirty-seven years and was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for nineteen years. Doris was very community spirited. For many years she worked as a Teachers Aide, and for the past fifteen years Doris was a sponsor for Latin American Children. More importantly Doris was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her son, Jerry Lee Derby and his wife, Sonja of Dallas, TX; daughters, Barbara Sue Derby and her husband Roger Schafer of Las Vegas, NV, Janice Kay Miller and her husband, Mickey of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Louise Rummells of Lone Tree, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
