Mary E. S. Ross, 81 of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 30, 2004. Mary was born on February 2, 1923 in Asbury Park NJ, the first daughter of Dr. John Patterson Sampson and Agnes M. Henry Sampson. She graduated from Asbury Park High (1941) and Trenton State Teachers College (1945) majoring in elementary education. She earned a Masters of Education Degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1968. Married in 1947 to Louis Ross of Asbury Park, she had one son. She divorced and moved to New Mexico in 1953 where she joined the Bureau of Indian Affairs, serving on the Pueblo and Navajo Reservations in many locations. She was a teacher, principal, BIA administrator in Washington D.C. and an Area Director in Window Rock, AZ where she retired from the BIA in 1984. Mary moved to Albuquerque, was an honored member of the Daughters of the King, Society of Mary and the Altar Guild for St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Mary actively volunteered with the Gray Gladiators, working with the Museum of Natural History, the annual Balloon Festival, the annual Gathering of Nations Pow Wow, the public library and other events. She enjoyed the Senior Knitting Club, crossword puzzles, tennis and travel. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Paul (Sherrie) Anthony Ross, of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Alyss Martin of Woodbury, NJ; four grandchildren, Mrs. Rebecca (Francis) Darlene Gonsalves, Major Pete (Tannia) Anthony Ross, Captain Shawn (Christie) Clinton Ross currently serving in Afghanistan, and Mrs. Nakia (Carlos) Maria Smith; one niece, Ms. Carolynn Elyce Martin; eleven great grandchildren, many very supportive cousins and a host of good friends. Services will be held at the James H. Hunt Funeral Home, 126 Ridge Ave, Asbury Park, NJ, 07712, Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Interment: Sand Ridge Cemetery. Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd. NE. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
