Obituary for HOMRICH

Bernard "Ben" Homrich, age 80, passed away on Veterans' Day, Thursday, November 11, 2004, in Albuquerque. Ben was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on April 4, 1924, to Bernard and Ella Homrich, and was the oldest of six children. Ben enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December, 1942 and served with the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific from June, 1943 until June, 1945. Before the age of 21, Ben had participated in the battles of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he returned to Muskegon, where he was employed as an officer with the Muskegon Police Department. He attended and graduated from the University of Michigan. While visiting his sister in Santa Rosa, NM, he fell in love with the Land of Enchantment and moved to Albuquerque, where he embarked on a career as a casualty claims adjuster with Allstate Insurance Company. Subsequently, he was employed by State Farm Insurance Company and moved to San Juan County. He retired from State Farm Insurance Company, and enjoyed retirement with the love of his life, Marjorie, his wife of 58 years. In addition to Marjorie, he is survived by his son, James E. Homrich, Farmington, and daughter, Jodie Dobbs, Cortez. He is also survived by his five siblings, Robert Homrich and Sister Rosemary Homrich, O.P., Albuquerque, Father Eugene Homrich, CHC, a missionary priest in Bangladesh, Joseph Homrich, Defiance, Ohio, and Patricia Homrich, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ben loved horses, was an avid reader, and had a wide circle of friends, including many from the Navajo Reservation. He and Marge volunteered at the Aztec Ruins after his retirement. Ben's wish that he be cremated has been fulfilled. A gathering of his friends to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 10:00 am at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute Street, Farmington, NM, (505) 325-8688. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions to the charity of your choice be made in Ben's name.
