Obituary for PETTY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 10, 2004

Harold Edward Petty ("Jack" to those who knew and loved him), age 84, passed peacefully to be with God on October 14, 2004 at the US Veterans Hospital - Livermore. Jack was born in Packerton, Wyoming the only son of Jerry and Edith Petty. He spent his youth in Texas and lived the majority of his adult life in California, with stays in New Mexico where he met his beloved wife of 57 years, Jennie Petty. Jack served his country proudly in WWII in the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He received 2 Bronze Battle Stars and a purple heart during campaigns in Italy and the South of France. Jack worked for years in the burgeoning aerospace industry of the 1950-60s and in latter years started anew with security and locksmith businesses. After raising his family for over 35 years in Huntington Beach, CA he retired for a time in Albuquerque, NM and then returned to California, the Stockton area, to be nearer family in 1998. He was a colorful soul whose interests included re-building sports cars, car racing, motorcycles, and general "tinkering." If it had a motor - the man could fix it! In addition, he guided many a football game from his recliner. His smile and humor will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Petty; daughters, Bobbie Dodge (Pleasanton, CA), Jackie Stovall (Susanville, CA) and Curlee-lyn Phillips (Cary, NC); sons-in-law: Wayne Dodge, Joel Stovall, and Duncan Phillips; grandchildren, Nicole Millard (San Ramon, CA), Tim Wright (Philadelphia PA), Jennifer Wertepny (Gresham, OR), Joe Wertepny (San Diego, CA), Brian Stovall (Susanville, CA), Sean Stovall (Susanville, CA), Jesse Wheeler (Stockton, CA), Tyler Phillips (Cary, NC) and Lauren Phillips (Cary, NC); and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Bowers (WA), Frances Guynes (TX); daughter, Sandra Greene (CA); and grandson, Eric Brewer (OK). To honor his life a Memorial Service will be held November 20 at 7:00 pm at the Valley Bible Church, Pleasanton CA. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service.
