Johnny (Juan) Valdez, 85, was called safely home to our Lord and Savior on Friday, November 5, 2004, after a very short battle with cancer. Born in Velarde, New Mexico, he worked and raised his children in Los Alamos and relocated in Albuquerque in 1962. Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice; his four children, Florence and husband Joe, Jerry and wife Anita, Moe, Annette Griego and husband Albert; his sister, Maria Cones, of Spokane, WA. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and was considered as a "grandpa" by many other friends and children who loved and will miss him. Johnny was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe' s St. Vincent de Paul Society. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 1860 Griegos Rd, NW. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW.
