Ted Ray Vernon went into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after an eight year battle with cancer. Surrounded by his family and dear friends, the battle ended and the victory was won on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Ted was born on Thursday, July 21, 1938 in Morton, TX, the youngest son of Hurbert and Elnora Vernon. He is survived in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara; sons, Don and Ken; and daughter, Gail Phillips. He was blessed with eight grandchildren; Tim, Sarah, Alyss, Nicholas, Zachary, Emily, Troy, and Trenton. He is also survived by brothers, Lawayne, Chester, and Dale; a sister, Sue Burks; and dear friends, Ed and Linda Kolle. Ted volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seabee and belonged to Chapter 33 of the Disabled American Veterans. He established two successful businesses in Albuquerque, retiring from Kenco Plumbing and Heating in 1998. He was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church since 1967. Ted enjoyed the fellowship of friends, traveling, camping, playing games, snow skiing, fishing and a good barbeque. He was a member of the Manzanita Sam's RV Group. The family wishes to thank all those who gave Ted their support and prayers. Our appreciation to the staff at New Mexico Cancer Center and Albuquerque Regional Medical Center, 10th floor. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:00 am at Temple Baptist Church, 1613 Arizona NE followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Baptist Missions to Forgotten People to help Pastor Kevin Murdoch and his family pioneer a new work to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico.
