Obituary for BROMBERG

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 03, 2004

Evan Miles Bromberg, 19, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 31, 2004. He is survived by his parents, David L. Bromberg and Janet V. Jeffries and husband, Anthony; brother, Ryan Bromberg; sister, Samantha Bromberg; paternal grandparents, Sheldon and Marilyn Bromberg; maternal grandparents, Bud and Patsy Usinger, all of Albuquerque; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends of different cultures, races, ages and backgrounds. "Evan was a unique child grown into early manhood. From an early age, the pain or misfortune of others grieved him. Before he was old enough to drive, he was driven to find solutions for age-old problems. As a child, he announced that he wanted to lead others "into innocence." His selflessness often did just that. His interests were not mere pastimes, but dedicated explorations into excellence and discovery. He was a self-taught pianist who worked ceaselessly to master the instrument and passionately sensed beauty, good taste and passion. Evan's drawings and paintings were not mere child's play, but powerful evocations of the mysteries and pain we all face in life. His avocations from the age of 17 included a self-guided education in philosophy from Aristotle to Hegel, in mathematics from calculus to relativity, in music from Mozart to jazz. As a youngster, Evan was a fine athlete who competed passionately, but he knew somehow that his love and responsibilities to himself called for him elsewhere. Evan took responsibility for his every deed, and sought always to speak, to the tiniest detail, the literal truth about the world and himself. Evan gave of himself without regard to the cost to himself; his love and concerns were dedicated to the world equally to his friends and his family. Altogether, Evan's flame burned brilliantly, if erratically, and will shine eternally for each of us who knew and loved him. He will be missed." Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Congregation B'Nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Rabbi Arthur Flicker officiating. "In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to a fund established in Evan's name as follows: "The Society of The Little Prince, in Memory of Evan M. Bromberg" at the Albuquerque Community Foundation, P.O. Box 36960, Albuquerque, NM 87176." French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
