Obituary for COUPLAND

James O. Coupland, 68, was born June 12, 1936 and passed away on October 28, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. His father, George Coupland, of Williamsburg, NM, preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his mother, Billie Coupland of Williamsburg; his wife, Lyn Coupland of Taos; daughter, Kristen Coupland of Chandler, AZ; and sisters, Lucille Shivers of Elephant Butte, and Deanna Clark of Anchorage, AK. Jim grew up on the family ranch in Socorro County and graduated from Socorro High School. He excelled in high school and college athletics and enjoyed a lifetime interest in golf and skiing. In 1958, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico and had a successful career in the engineering field as a partner in Coupland-Moran Engineering. Jim was respected by his peers for his integrity, honesty, and professionalism; and he will be remembered for his devotion and love of family. A memorial service will be held on November 3, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at the Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Road NW. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the James Coupland Scholarship Fund in care of Tim Davis, School of Engineering, 107 Ferris Engineering Center, Albuquerque, NM 87131.
