Shirley Traxler Suttman, a longtime resident of New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2004 in her home in Corrales. Born July 18, 1923 in Bonner Springs, Kansas to Ivan and Dorothea Traxler, she attended school at Christian College in Columbia, Missouri and at Oklahoma University, where she studied Drama and Radio production. Blessed with a talented creative mind and a vibrant personality, Shirley was successful at a variety of jobs, hobbies, and volunteer work over the years, including: writing news and commercials, announcing, and interviewing at the KCRC radio station in Oklahoma, at the Los Alamos radio station, and later at KGGM radio in Albuquerque; as well as activities in Little Theater productions wherever she resided. Shirley recognized her local duty and volunteered time to various works such as; voting poll monitoring, and "The Bargain Box" outlet for used clothing, and as a volunteer on the Federal level she served several years as a New Mexico representative for The State Department Foreign Visitors Program. Shirley married John P. Suttman at her parents' home in Vernon, Texas on December 20, 1945. She raised three daughters: Sydney, Barbara, and Christina; and one son, John Jr., all of whom are honorable citizens of which she was most proud. She is also blessed with two classically annoying grandchildren that she loved very much. Shirley is lovingly remembered and cruelly missed.
