Obituary for MINGE

Shirley Jolly Minge, age 77, died of a heart attack August 17, 2004 in Las Cruces. She was born September 15, 1926 in Colorado Springs, CO to Harold and Ethel Randall Jolly. She attended school in Pasadena, CA followed by advanced studies at universities in Oslo, Norway; Denver, CO, and New Mexico. At the age of 18 she went to Alaska and worked for the Alaskan Communications Service during World War II. In 1949 she joined the Women's Army Corps, eventually retiring from the Army Reserves in 1982 with the rank of Colonel. On June 7, 1951 she married Ward Alan Minge at Sandia Air Force Base, NM. They lived for more than 45 years in Corrales, NM where they created Casa San Ysidro, the Gutierrez/Minge house, which is now part of the Museum of Albuquerque. Mrs. Minge headed the housing program at the University of New Mexico for many years. Survivors include her husband, Ward Alan Minge of Waterville, KS. At Mrs. Minge's request, cremation has taken place and cremated remains have been inurned at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
