Obituary for DEAN

Nowlan Kelly Dean, MD, (Colonel, USAF, Ret), 68, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Thursday, September 2, following a severe West Nile virus infection. He is survived by his wife, Ann; children: Matthew Walker and Andrea Walker of Albuquerque, Kelly Dean, Lyn Dean and wife, Lynley, Eric Dean, Dixie Dix and husband, Brent, Dana Dean, and David Dean of Utah; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Stockard of California and Marilyn Black and husband, Gerry of Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Myrle Kelly Dean and Clarence Nowlan Dean. Nowlan K. Dean was born on December 28, 1935, in Midway, UT. He graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City, UT, in 1954, and from University of Utah with a B.S. in Zoology in 1959, and a M.S. in Zoology in 1962. He graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, in 1966. He completed an internship and residency at Latter-Day Saints Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT, and completed his residency in General Surgery at Letterman General Hospital, Presidio of San Francisco in 1968. He was a life member of the Air Force Association, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Aerospace Medical Association, and was active as a NRA Life Member and training counselor. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd Chapel. Services will be held on Saturday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m., at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 4800 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM, with Rev. John Dykehuis officiating. Burial will be at Midway Cemetery in Midway, UT on September 17.
