Isabel Castillo, lifelong Raton resident, passed away in Albuquerque on Saturday, August 4, 2004. She was born in Canoncito, NM, the daughter of the late Jacobo G. and Luz Guruled Valdez. She was a devoted school teacher for 35 years having taught school in Las Vegas, NM, Mora, NM, Van Houten, NM and retired from teaching at Longfellow School in Raton. She was a member of St. Patrick-St. Joseph Catholic Church of Raton, Delta Kappa Gamma, Sorosis Club and a member of the New Mexico Education Association. Isabel was preceded in death by her first husband, Onorio Filangi; and second husband, Guillermo Castillo; her parents; and one sister, Cruzita Valdez Gilbert. She is survived by her special nephew, James A. "Jim" Gilbert and his wife, Rose of Albuquerque, NM. The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Friday, September 10, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday, September 11, 2004 at l0:00 a.m. at St. Patrick-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father George Silva as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers include Juan Gilbert, Vince Gilbert, Ernest E. Castillo, Johnny J. Armijo, Ted Giron, and Roman Alderette; Honorary pallbearer is James A. Gilbert, Jr. Arrangements for Isabel Castillo are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
