Charlotte Isabel Ashford, 39, rests in peace after a courageous battle with cancer. She died at home on August 13, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 21, 1965, in Lancaster, England, she was a resident of Silver City, NM for five years. Charlotte will be remembered as a person of integrity who stood up for principles and loved life. She will be greatly missed. Charlotte "Charlie" Ashford was an award winning soprano who performed opera and sacred music in the United States and Canada. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BA in Liberal Studies and taught music at the Clifton schools in Clifton, AZ, and at the Sixth Street Elementary School in Silver City. At Western New Mexico University she was loved and respected by her students. Charlotte was known as a strong advocate. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Brett Ashford, and their two children, Andrew and Emilyann. She will be missed by her mother, the Reverend Isabel Gardner of Middletown, DE; and her three sisters, Richenda Fairhurst of Camas, WA, Justyne Reyes of Clifton, AZ, and Verity Averill of Wilmington, DE; as well as her niece and nephews. A memorial service for Charlotte will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at 5:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1915 S. Swan Street, in Silver City. The Reverend Robert Reese will officiate, with a reception to follow in celebration of her life. The family is grateful for all the tremendous help, support, and prayers Charlotte received during her courageous struggle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gila Regional Hospice, 1313 E. 32nd street, Silver City, NM 88061. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
