Obituary for RUBIO

Margaret C. Rubio, 73, a retired elementary school teacher and resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Candelaria; and a brother, Nick Candelaria. She is survived by her beloved husband, Dan Rubio of the family home; two daughters, Anna Marie McClellan and her husband, Billy of Las Cruces, NM and Jane Rubio of Rifle, CO; her mother, Lily Candelaria of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Ella Lucero of San Bruno, CA and Gloria Cole of Littleton, CO; one brother, John Candelaria and his wife, Emily of Albuquerque, NM; a granddaughter, Jenna McClellan of Las Cruces, NM; a brother-in-law, Arthur Rubio and his wife, Celsa of Las Vegas; and a sister-in-law, Rose Rubio also of Las Vegas. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on April 7, 1931 and received her BA at St. Joseph's College in Albuquerque. She began her teaching career at the Barcelona Elementary School in Albuquerque and then at the San Felipe School also in Albuquerque. She taught at the North and South Public Schools and spent the rest of her career at Legion Park Elementary School here in Las Vegas up until her retirement. She was a member of the Northeastern Regional Hospital Auxiliary and also the Alta Vista Regional Hospital Auxiliary. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, July 30, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
