Obituary for SMITH

Carl Franklin Smith, 84, a resident of Los Lunas, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Agnes Smith of Los Lunas; daughters, Marianna Edgar and husband, Craig of Cheyenne, WY and Sylvia Smith of Los Lunas; son-in-law, Joe Furrow of Beeville, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Foster and husband, Jim of Los Lunas, Charlotte Blucher and husband, Tom of Beeville, TX, Heather Domanski and husband, Jude of Chicago, Shayla Andrews of Warwick, RI; step-grandchildren, Carole Goldy of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Willoughby of Oklahoma City, OK, and Devin Edgar of Cheyenne, WY; great-grandchildren, Bryan Brown, Nicole Foster, Mycheal Foster, Betheny Foster, Corinne Bemis, and Torin Kuether. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Marie Furrow. Mr. Smith was a lifetime member of VFW in Elephant Butte, NM. He served in WWII in 1942-1945 as a sergeant with Company K, 194th Glider Infantry Armament. He received his Plumber Pipefitter Apprenticeship Certificate in 1948. Mr. Smith attended Purdue University to become a certified apprentice instructor for New Mexico. For many years he was an instructor for the Apprenticeship School in New Mexico. He was appointed to the Mechanical Board under NM Governors, Jack Campbell through Bruce King. Mr. Smith was AFL-CIO NM State President for several terms. He was a member of and former business manager for Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters. David Rusk issued an executive order to proclaim October 11, 1980, Carl F. Smith Day in Albuquerque. Mr. Smith was an avid pilot and flew his first solo flight in February 1948. He loved flight and logged many hours. Mr. Smith also loved to fish with his family and to ride motorcycles. Services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004, 1:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be Craig Edgar, Jim Foster, Bryan Brown, Pat Pugh, Joe Furrow, Allen Pearson, Bobby Elkins, and David River a. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Griffin, Bill Deen, Dick Hill, and Dewey Moeuller. Friends may visit one hour prior to service.
