Obituary for LANCASTER

Margie Mills Lancaster age 74 of Clovis, New Mexico died July 24, 2004 at her home. She was born February 19, 1930 to Charles and Stella Hudson Mills in Rogers, New Mexico. She married Jack Lancaster September 26, 1981 in Clovis, New Mexico. Margie was the daughter of a long line of educators and strongly believed that a free public education is the greatest equalizer and a necessary basis for a democratic society. She began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at the Misawa Air Force Base, Japan. Returning to the USA to Clovis, she taught all elementary grade levels and retired from a teaching career after being Principal of Zia Elementary School. In retirement Margie and Jack took on one of their most rewarding roles, as Field Supervisors of Student Teachers for ENMU (1988-1997). Margie has a long list of academic honors and has contributed much to her chosen profession, acknowledged through awards such as Clovis Education Association's Educator of the Year (1981), Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Alumni, World's Who's Who of Women, Fifth Edition, and many other honors, culminating with her induction into the National Education Association of New Mexico State Hall of Fame in 1986 and her role as President of New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees (NMAER) and State Board AARP. Her college experience was very rich with involvement in many sororities, including Beta Tau Chi Business Society, ENMU Choir, Marching Band, Concert Band, Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Phi Kappa Phi. She remained active in several of these sororities all her life. She is survived by her loving husband Jack Lancaster of Clovis, New Mexico; one daughter Sharli Frederiksen of Mesa, Arizona; three sons, Gary and wife Marilyn Lancaster of Clovis, New Mexico, Kenneth Lancaster of Clovis, New Mexico, and Bob and wife Sharon Lancaster of Auroro, Colorado; one brother, Laddie Mills of Colorado; five grandchildren, Tayna and husband Bobbie Speer, Melinda and husband Jim Collins, Shannon and husband Jason Cosby, Lindsay Lancaster, and Kristen Frederiksen; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jay Lancaster; and two great grandsons, Austin and Aaron Speer. Services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004 1:00 p.m. at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton, with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and Rev. Brad Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Plains Sanctuary Mausoleum. Pallbearers include Russell Goff, Dick Sullinger, Delman Shirley, Jim McDaniel, G. C. Ross, and Mel Mapes. Honorary Pallbearers include Kripple Creek Coffe Group.
