Obituary for STEPHENSON

Robert Boylan Stephenson of Albuquerque died at home on July 12, 2004. He was born on September 6, 1927 in Ames, Iowa. He moved to Albuquerque in 1943 after his father's death. As a young man he served in the Navy, completed his BS in engineering and was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force. In 1954 he married Mary Ann Hastings, began a career in land surveying and obtained a JD from UNM School of Law. After a prolific career in civil engineering he began to write software for surveyors. His professional career ended with service as Chairman of the Environmental Planning Commission and Investigator for the NM Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. He was preceded in death by his sister Anafred and her husband William Hume II, his brothers Conrad, Craig and James Stephenson and Mary Hester Stephenson, wife of brother Craig. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, son Craig, daughter Ann Cort‚s, her husband Rodolfo and their children Daisy and Daniel and daughter Marylou Hillberg, her husband Andy and their children Elin and David. He is also survived by brother in law Bob McPheron and wife Irene, sister in law Colleen Newman and her husband Jim and sisters in law Ruth Stephenson and Cherle Stephenson. His family included many nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial will be held at the Kimo Theater on July 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Presbyterian Hospice, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra or the charity of your choice.
