Merle Beatrice Houk, 86, God's faithful servant, passed away on July 8, 2004. Merle is survived by her husband of sixty years, Howard Houk, both of whom were residents of Albuquerque for over forty years. She is also survived by her daughter, Barbara Field; two granddaughters, Jessica and Olivia Field of London, England; her sister, Claire Guentz of Albuquerque; a great-nephew, Bob Hall of Albuquerque; and other relatives residing throughout the United States. She is preceded in death by her dear son, Delbert, who died in Albuquerque in 1963 at the age of 15. Merle (nee Lujan) grew up in Clayton, NM, went to the university in Portales, and worked in Santa Fe, where she met and married Howard, who practiced law there. Merle was a talented artist and an active member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, and was loved dearly by those who knew her. She was an example of grace, style and beauty. She died in the peace of the Lord, her life's work completed. Her funeral will take place at St. Mark's on the Mesa on Monday, July 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Placement of the cremated remains will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
