Obituary for VANOVER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday June 25, 2004

Viola Hubbard Vanover went home to heaven June 22, 2004. She was born March 25, 1916 to Jerry Marion and Mazy (Hubbard) Hubbard at their farm on the north fork of Pound River, Wise County, VA. She married John Paul Vanover in 1935. Elizabeth Joan (Mrs. John) Roberts, Phyllis Jane (Mrs. Wayne) Costley and John Paul (Isabel Montano) Vanover, Jr. were born to them. During WWII they worked in Detroit, MI where our gentle mother, doing her part, inspected and packed guns. They came to NM in 1949 to a new life and the births of three more children, Mary Gayle (Mrs. Roger) Maggard, Deborah Lynn (Mrs. David) Standfier and James Mark Vanover. John Paul Senior, Phyllis and Mark have preceded her in death, as have her sisters Ethel, Ella, Della, Ada and Nella and brothers Marshall, Arthur and Tollie. She liked to say that three wonderful things happened to her after coming to New Mexico, three more children, finding her beloved Church of the Nazarene and becoming a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital. She retired 25 years ago. A true Virginia belle, a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend. Everyone who knew her was touched by her loving compassion and grace. "Her children shall rise up and call her blessed." Funeral services are on Friday, June 25, 2004 at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo, NE, at 2:00 p.m.
