Obituary for BACA

Mr. Gillie J. Baca "Uncle Gillie," 81, born September 11, 1922, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, and also in security for the Army Corps of Engineers. His passion was dancing and he also enjoyed playing guitar. He attended Senior Center dances and won dance contests throughout the city and state. He attended Albuquerque High School where he was an All-State golfer. Mr. Baca is survived by his brothers, Eloy and Dennis Baca; sisters, Ada Chavez and husband, Charles, Elsie Petersen, and Dolores Armijo. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, and his lifelong dancing partner, Jospehine Listek. A Rosary for Mr. Baca will be recited on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2004 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided the DAV Chapter 3. Pallbearers will be Donald Gillie Armijo, Dominic Chavez, Chuck Chavez, Cameron Vigil, Alfredo Rios, and Richard Petersen. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig and Drew Chavez. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a favorite charity. Arrangements by: Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 Third St. SW 247-4124
