The Reverend Father Edward M. Rivera passed away Monday, June 14, 2004. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabel Rivera. He is survived by his father, Lorenzo (Larry) Rivera; five sisters, Diane Rivera of Denver, CO and children, Pam Ybarra and husband, Herbert Glenn Sr. of Orlando, FL and children, Susan McKenna and husband, Todd of Phoenix, AZ and children, Anita Feight, husband, Larry and daughter, of Albuquerque, NM, Jennifer Randall, husband, Ryan and daughter of Albuquerque, NM; four brothers, Tony Rivera, wife, Kathy and children, of Albuquerque, Timothy Rivera, wife, Sandy and children of Farmington, NM, Steve Rivera, wife, Cathy and children of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Rivera of Denver, CO. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories before entering Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, CT. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, he was ordained a priest of God on June 7, 2003 by Archbishop Michael Sheehan of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe at St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM, and assigned as Parochial Vicar to Risen Savior Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He celebrated his first Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church on June 8, 2003. Father Rivera loved his faith and his family. A fun-loving person, he enjoyed playing golf, winning at cribbage and beating his nephews in basketball at the park. He was dedicated to his family and to prayer. He had a great devotion to the Divine Mercy, our Blessed Mother, the Eucharist, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. He was a powerhouse of prayer. During his year of service to Our Lord, the Catholic Church, his parishioners, and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, Father Rivera touched and changed so many lives through his holiness, courage, devotion and strong will. Public visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Sunrise Funeral Options from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The Rosary service will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 followed by a Vigil of the Deceased at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of the Hours/Office of the Dead will be recited at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2004. Archbishop Michael Sheehan will preside at the Mass of the Resurrection to be held at Risen Savior Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. The Pallbearers will be his nephews; Christopher, Jason and Aaron McKenna, Glenn Ybarra Jr., and Andrew and Tony Rivera Jr. The Honorary Pallbearers are his brothers. Committal will take place after the Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 7500 Paseo Del Norte NE.
